GRASS CLIPPINGS

Grass clippings are collected on Mondays throughout the cutting season with the exception of Memorial Day and Labor Day. Grass cannot be mixed with leaves or branches/twigs.

Placing grass in a 30 gallon plastic or metal container is preferred. Biodegradable bags may also be used. Containers cannot weigh more than 60 pounds.

BEFORE BAGGING GRASS CONSIDER THIS:

Bagged grass cost the Township $50,000 to dispose of in 2009.
A typical 5,000 sq. ft. lawn generates approximately 75 pounds of grass clippings per mowing. This converts to .0375 tons per mowing. Mowing 5-6 times per month generates approximately 1.38 tons per season.
Bagging grass adds 40% more time to routine lawn care.
Grass clippings contain up to 90% water and decompose quickly.
Grass clippings do not cause thatch when left on lawns.
Leaving grass clippings on the lawn returns nutrients to the soil.
Many landfills in the U.S. no longer accept yard trimmings.
Most lawn care professionals do not bag grass.
